Dole joins with SafetyChain for “Fresh” approach to food safety
Dole Fresh Vegetables has partnered with SafetyChain Software to prepare for the US Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Food Safety and Modernization Act (FSMA).

Nye Joell Hardy, Dole Fresh Vegetables’ senior food safety manager, said: “We ensure all food safety programs are followed at the start of every point of production, from planting to harvest to post-harvest.

“Additionally, we are taking steps that prepare us for compliance with announced and anticipated FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) rules.”

Dole will use the software for supplier compliance in the field – pre, during and post-harvest, conduct assessments from data sent via mobile devices – with realtime alerts when corrective actions are required, respond to regulatory, non-regulatory and customer audits on demand and have realtime traceability to the electronic “paper chain” for mock and potential withdrawals and recalls.

“For today’s complex food supply chain – combined with regulatory, non-regulatory and customer-driven compliance challenges, such as the FDA’s recently announced FSMA preventative control for human food and produce rules – realtime safety information with traceable data is critical,” said Barbara Levin, SafetyChain senior vice president and co-founder.
