False positive results prompt CFIA U-turn
CFIA issued a recall on August 8 for Mary’s Organic Crackers products (crackers and pretzels described below) due to undeclared almonds.
However, the agency is now advising the public that there is no evidence the products contain almonds, so they do not pose a risk to individuals allergic to them.
It said additional testing has confirmed that original laboratory results were false positives.
At the time of the recall, Mary’s Organic Crackers said it does not store any almond products onsite or use any almond-derived ingredients (e.g., almond milk, almond extract) in any of its products.
The products were recalled between July 24 and August 8 as tests indicated they contained undeclared almonds.
A total of 1,872 cases of Original Crackers, 184g, with a lot code and best before date of APR 01 15 CK3999 and 276 cases of Sticks and Twigs Pretzels Sea Salt, 212g, with a lot code and best before date of JAN 01 2015 PR1433 were involved.
