Microbiology laboratories play a pivotal role in ensuring food and drink is safe, according to Campden BRI.

The research organisation is holding a seminar next week looking at the link between the microbiology testing lab and the food production arena.

It will also look at method validation and risk assessment.

Campden BRI said although production managers consider microbiological testing as a 'necessary evil', the consequences and commercial damage from food safety failure are ‘too painful to consider’.

The event is aimed at food and beverage laboratory personnel, microbiologists and technical managers, food manufacturers and quality assurance staff.

Speakers include Dr Roy Betts of Campden BRI, Paul in't Veld from the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority, Peter McClure, Mondelez International and Jeanne-Marie Membré of INRA, France.

The seminar, sponsored by Lab M, costs £120+VAT for Campden BRI members and £150 for non-members and is on 26 November at Campden BRI.
