Disinfection Services has brought an on-site airborne pathogen monitoring system to the US market.

The North American distributor for Ireland-based NuWave Sensors launched the PathogenALERT RAPID Reader System at the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) conference in Charlotte, North Carolina (11-13 June).

It is an on-site microbial detection sensor that monitors airborne pathogens (bacteria, yeasts and molds).

The system draws an air sample into a detection site which determines the presence of specific microbial contamination. Sensors connected to the cloud-based monitoring system send text and email alerts whenever contamination is detected.

Stephen Daniels, inventor and co-founder of NuWave Sensors, said reducing infection risks and costs are a key benefit to users.

"Implementing the RAPID Reader should have a significant impact on the effective management of airborne pathogens, resulting in lower overall costs for detection, infection risks, and remedial actions."

Clients include manufacturing, food processing and preparation and clean room environments.

The Rapid Reader samples air every five minutes to detect the presence of pathogens based on light scattering measurements. The LED status also alerts users that a pathogen has been detected and/or a cartridge change is required.

Susan Skelton, owner of Disinfection Services, said it detects infectious airborne contaminants before visual growth occurs which allows corrective action before an outbreak.

“Our clients are able to simply detect pathogens on-site and on-time, and can also bundle one or more RAPID Readers with advanced UVC disinfection technology to detect, alert, and destroy airborne pathogens before an outbreak occurs.”
