The full risk assessment of bisphenol A (BPA) has been moved to the end of 2014, according to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
The agency said it will give its scientists sufficient time to assess comments it got during the public consultation on its safety evaluation of the chemical.
EFSA received almost 250 responses during the two-month consultation.
It will hold a follow-up meeting with stakeholders on 23 April to discuss comments received during the consultation on the human health risks.
Stakeholders will also be able to discuss feedback from the public consultation in summer 2013 on the first part of the draft opinion that assessed exposure to the chemical.
