A curtainless x-ray for lightweight products and a seal seam scanner are among the systems Multivac Marking & Inspection plans to launch at the IFFA meat industry show in Frankfurt.

The gadgets are all aimed at meat and sausage manufacturers. The curtainless x-ray model is integrated into a traysealer line and is designed to check even very light products for contamination, without holding them back by lead curtains or shifted on the conveyor.

The new MVS seal seam scanner scans bags’ seal seams while they are still in the thermoforming packaging machine, increasing the reliability of the image taking.

Multivac will be showcasing MR820 checkweighers in three weight ranges at IFFA, including a version with an integrated multi-frequency metal detector.

Marking machines

The company is also introducing its HMI 2.0 user interface, an operating system that can control all its marking machines, such as belt labellers and web printers.

“The integration of our marking systems in the HMI 2.0 has the benefit that operators no longer have to change between different user interfaces,” said Michael Reffke, product manager for marking technology at Multivac Marking & Inspection.

Reduce the number of control terminals

“This means that we can reduce the number of control terminals in a Multivac packaging line and also the necessary cabling.

“The packaging machine, on which a cross-web labeller or direct web printer is fitted, or alternatively a conveyor belt labeller with several label dispensers and printers, becomes easier and clearer to operate and more hygienic in its construction.”

Multivac said its marking systems could be equipped with the entire range of process inspection systems currently on the market, from luminescence scanners and barcode scanners to vision systems.
