FoodQualityNews will be reporting live from two major industry events in the next few weeks - The GFSI Global Food Safety Conference and Pittcon.

The 16th Global Food Safety Conference (27 February–2 March) in Houston, Texas is expected to bring together more than 1,000 food industry representatives from 60 countries.

FQN is a media partner​ of the event and multilateral organizations such as UNIDO, FAO and IICA will also be present.

Exhibitors include TraceGains, Tetra Pak, USP, TraceOne, SGS, Safefood360, SAI Global, Sealed Air, Stop Foodborne Illness, Rentokil, PAR, LRQA, Mettler Toledo, Merieux Nutrisciences, IFS Food, Intertek, EHEDG, IAFP Ecolab, DNV, Bureau Veritas, Bruker and biomerieux.

GFSI will reveal more about the Benchmarking Requirements V7 and the chair of the GFSI Board of directors will explain what this means in the context of international trade, the US FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), food fraud challenges and increased demand for transparency.

Peter Begg, chair of the conference programme committee, said: “The work that GFSI is doing on food safety is not only about compliance to regulations and standards, but supports the efforts to feed a growing population that according to estimates will reach nine billion people by 2050.

“We have structured the program to address many of the areas that will enable the food industry to meet these challenges in the coming years.”

The speaker line-up includes over 70 experts over the three days of conference sessions, including Dave MacLennan, CEO of Cargill, Doug Baker, CEO of Ecolab, John P. Bilbrey, CEO of The Hershey Company, Irene Rosenfeld, CEO of Mondelēz and Stephen Ostroff, deputy commissioner, office of foods and veterinary medicine, US FDA.

Representatives from The Coca-Cola Company, General Mills, Land O’Lakes, McDonalds and Nestlé will also attend.

“GFSI returns to the US in the wake of new US food laws and regulations taking effect that impact not only the US but those countries who trade with and export their products to the US,”​ said Véronique Discours-Buhot, GFSI director.

A few days later, the Pittcon exposition (March 5-9) at McCormick Place​ in Chicago, Illinois, will include 770 exhibitors of which 122 are present for the first time.

The exposition will look at analytical chemistry; nanotechnology; life sciences to include genomics, proteomics, metabolomics; food analysis and safety; and air, water and wastewater analysis.

It will consist of 208 exhibiting companies headquartered in 29 countries outside the US such as the China, Canada, Germany, Japan and the UK.

The 410,540 square foot exposition floor will include nearly 1,400 booths and 24 seminar rooms.

Exhibitors include Waters, JEOL, ACD/Labs, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Shimadzu, Bruker, SCION Instruments, Ellutia, Advion, Ionicon, Seward, Leco and Horiba.
