DuPont’s BAX System for detecting Shiga toxin-producing E.coli (STEC) in beef trim and ground beef has been backed by the AOAC Research Institute.
The Performance Tested Method (PTM) certification means DuPont’s BAX system assays for E.coli, Salmonella and Listeria are all validated by the body.
AOAC Research Institute validated the system as equivalent to the reference culture method for detecting STEC, but with faster time to results.
Food processing companies use the system to detect pathogens or other organisms in raw ingredients, finished products and environmental samples.
The system is based on polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays, tableted reagents and optimized media.
DuPont’s BAX system to detect pathogenic E.coli was recently adopted by the US Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS) in the Microbiology Laboratory Guidebook (MLG) of Test Methods.
