The donation to the Food Packaging Group, School of Food and Nutritional Sciences, University College Cork (UCC), will expand the student’s packaging technology.
Joe Kerry, Ph.D., food packaging technologist and senior lecturer, UCC said the equipment will enhance the university’s packaging technology.
“This instrumentation will be used to further technology and packaging-based education at the university, and support the research needs of the Irish food and packaging industries,” he said.
UCC’s School of Food and Nutritional Sciences is recognized for its research and collaboration in human nutrition and health, dairy science, muscle food technologies (meat, poultry and seafood), cereals and beverage technology, food packaging, ingredients technology, consumer behavior, food economics, supply chain management, international food policy and rural development.
Ireland’s agri-food industry accounts for 8% of GDP and generates more than 160,000 jobs. It is responsible for a major proportion of exports of Irish-owned enterprises and its products are sold in more than 170 markets around the world.
