Recently a threat to contaminate New Zealand origin milk and milk derived ingredients with sodium monofluoroacetate (1080) was reported. As a result the regulatory authorities in New Zealand and China have mandated testing of milk ingredients and products to ensure the safety of these products. Two LC-MS/MS based analytical methods were quickly developed and validated at Abbott Nutrition. Details of these two methods, as well as their validation results will be presented. The benefits of UPLC coupled with tandem quadrupole MS in the analysis and the method development will be highlighted.
