Sun Branding Solutions has acquired FoodSpecifications.com, a software tool which collects, manages and distributes product information such as specification details, nutritional data and packaging information.
Darren Heathcote, business unit director, Sun Branding Solutions, claims after the horse meat scandal, it has seen a rise in demand for transparency along the food chain.
He believes the 24 hour cloud-based subscription model can delegate responsibility through multiple tiers in the supply chain for both raw materials and packaging, for traceability and support suppliers in managing audits and visits (including non compliances), issue and alert management.
Inputting data for suppliers
Heathcote said the biggest challenge in the industry right now is compliance with changing legislation such as the upcoming Food Information Regulations.
The website’s homepage coins itself as ‘Effective supply chain technical data management’ and adds ‘Collecting product information from your suppliers can be time consuming but our system allows you to delegate the responsibility for inputting data to your suppliers.’
The software will expand Sun Branding Solutions portfolio of legal, regulatory, and packaging technology services including its ODIN, an online brand management tool used by companies such as ASDA Walmart, Twinings, Findus, DANONE, Heinz and Reckitt Benckiser.
Horse meat scandal
“The horsemeat scandal has shown how complex the challenges of managing the supply chain can be, and FoodSpecifications.com’s ability to delegate responsibilities will provide a beneficial tool to this,” said Heathcote.
“The demands on the food retail industry are evolving faster now than at any time in the past and the need to maintain and provide accurate product data has never been greater.”
