Just as the Council and European Parliament usher in tighter regulations for food allergen labels as well as firm new rules to combat food-borne diseases such as salmonella, an upcoming event in Scandinavia will focus on food quality.

The Research Council of Norway said this week that it is to hold an information day on food quality and safety and the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) in Oslo, Norway, on 31 October.

The European Commission's head of unit for food quality, Liam Breslin, will give an overview of the second thematic call in the field of food quality and safety, and will present the results from the first call.

According to the research council , Norwegian project proposers will also share their experiences regarding the new instruments.
