Agropur Cooperative is recalling some milk due to potential presence of harmful material.

Island Farms, Lucerne and Natrel brand milk was distributed in British Columbia.

It includes skimmed milk, 1% and 2% partly skimmed milk, 1% chocolate partly skimmed milk and 3.25% homogenized milk.

Agropur said foreign material has been found in some items produced at the Victoria, British Columbia facility.

"We are taking this decision as a precautionary measure. We apologize for any inconvenience this situation may have caused.

"Agropur acted swiftly and decisively to protect consumers. To avoid compromising the ongoing police investigation, we cannot comment further at this time. Agropur is taking the situation very seriously, is investigating, and is implementing additional controls from production through distribution.

"Consumers are advised not to consume the products and to return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund."

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is investigating which may lead to the recall of other products.

It did not say what the ‘harmful extraneous material’ was but added there have been no reported illnesses.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is also looking into the incident.
