CFIA suspects tampering in potato contamination
As tampering is a criminal offence, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is leading the investigation with the CFIA supporting.
CFIA said it is advising consumers of the situation involving potatoes harvested and packed by the firm of Summerside, Prince Edward Island.
Linkletter Farms is withdrawing certain products following a consumer complaint in which a metal object appears to have been inserted into a potato.
Brand names include Market Town Co-op, Link and Carr’s with bag sizes varying from 5lb, 10lb, 15lb and 50lb.
The products (which can be found here) have been sold in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island.
There have been no confirmed illnesses or injuries but the CFIA advised consumers should carefully check potatoes for foreign objects as a precaution.
