Mekitec food inspection systems is expanding in India and looking for distribution partners to sell and offer service support for its x-ray technology.

The company recently showcased its Combimeki, integrated x-ray and check weigher at Interpack 2014 in DuSseldorf, Germany, and currently has more than 150 devices installed across 30 countries.

Product launch this year

Lars Oehlandt, VP, marketing and product management, Mekitec told FoodProductionDaily it has several interesting products coming out this year.

We already introduced our x-ray/checkweigher -combi-device, which allows a food producer to integrate the whole inspection functionality into one system. Cost for this combi-device is obviously very competitive,” he said.

We are still a newcomer to the industry, we launched the world’s smallest and most cost-effective x-ray quality control system, our first device, in 2011, so we are not so well known yet.

Our concept would suit most food production lines and save a lot of money and space. We are currently present in almost 30 countries, but we still need to raise awareness of our brand and we are looking for distributors who can partner with us to enter the Indian market and help us market, sell and offer service support for our products.”

China, India, Brazil, Vietnam

Oehlandt said the next big emerging markets for Mekitech are to focus on China, India, Brazil and Vietnam and the next big trend will be x-ray/checkweigher combinations and bulk-detection-devices that can offer precise content (like fat amount) analysis and bacteria semi-online detection.
We develop, produce and deliver food inspection systems based on x-ray technologies,” he added.

Traditionally, food producers have been using metal detectors to assure quality of end products. But besides metal, x-ray systems can detect foreign object contamination such as glass, stones, bones, teflon and hard plastics in packaged food products.

It is important to have quality control in the end of the production line. When a package is closed and sealed, it cannot be contaminated anymore. Mekitec's Meki-concept is something totally new on the field of x-ray systems: significantly lower investment and maintenance cost, high accuracy in quality defect detection.

Maintenance costs a fragment in comparison to our competitors and there is a possibility to upgrade: No need to always buy a new machine to have the latest performance. This is also a sustainability factor.”

Mekitec’s offices are located in Oulu, Helsinki and in Xi’an, China. It also has sales offices in Hong Kong, Germany and the US.
