Thermal label is HACCP aid, claims its manufacturer

A new thermal label can indicate when an optimum temperature has been reached in ovens, dryers, retorts and curing operations, claims a supplier of cold chain and food safety equipment.

US-based DeltaTRAK said its high temperature detector, the TempDot High Temp Thermo Label, adheres to a dry, clean surface, is small in size, and, within 60 seconds, will undergo an irreversible colour change from white to red when a temperature of 160°F (71°C) has been met or exceeded.

“The label is tamper proof and offers an inexpensive and disposable solution for confirming that a temperature threshold has been met,”​ said the company.

According to the manufacturer, major causes of foodborne illness are due to improper cooking temperatures of foods such as ground meats, fish, and poultry.

According to the portable instrument manufacturer, the TempDot label can help food companies comply with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) requirements, and that it can also be employed in heat sanitizing and sterilization processes.

Logistics conditions data

The company also recently released its new FlashLink CT data logger, which it said is a temperature recording device aimed at documenting storage and transport conditions of temperature sensitive products and goods.

This new data logger supports temperature tracking at intervals of five, fifteen, forty-five or seventy-five days, according to the company.

The manufacturer said the recorded data can be printed using a CT graphics printer, downloaded to a PC, and/or uploaded to a web hosting server for visualization with the optional In-Transit FlashLink CT software package.

Guaranteed recording

“A patented feature, Shadow Log, guarantees temperature recording even when an operator forgets to activate the logger,”​ claims the company.

DeltaTrak said the model features a factory programmable alarm that can be set to monitor for upper and lower limit temperature excursions: “In the event that a logger is exposed to temperatures outside either alarm limit, a red LED will flash.”

A maximum of 3,822 readings can be recorded with the FlashLink CT.
