The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
It will to help the transfer of primary regulatory oversight for siluriformes fish and fish products from FDA to FSIS.
The agencies will coordinate in issuing regulations and guidance and in messages relevant to Siluriformes fish and fish products.
The MOU will help maximize the effectiveness of limited personnel and resources, said the agencies.
FSIS and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) signed a MOU earlier this month around foodborne health hazards potentially associated with meat and poultry products.
