Technology that can potentially detect and destroy biofilms on surfaces in food processing plants has been recognised by CTAQ.

BioDetect and BioDestroy won the 2016 award for Productivity and Technology Advancement given by the food processing council of Quebec.

BioDestroy's anti-biofilm action is under review by Health Canada.

BioDetect is a quality assurance tool that confirms the presence or absence of biofilms on surfaces allowing users to establish cleaning levels and validate cleaning operations.

It can be used daily and is complementary to ATP testing (ATP verifies cleanliness and BioDetect detects biofilms).

BioDestroy is a foaming sanitizer that claims to destroy biofilms on contact.

CTAQ recognizes industry efforts to develop and/or launch projects that advance food safety.

Dr Patrick Marchand, chemist and innovation and development director at Sani Marc Group, said biofilms are a hazard in food establishments and lead to numerous product recalls.

"BioDetect and BioDestroy are a powerful duo that allows customers to detect and destroy biofilms early on, thereby improving the safety of facilities and the products they manufacture."
