Kraft Foods has initiated a recall for a batch of its Jalapeno variety String Cheese product over concerns that a packaging error could present a choking hazard.

The recall, which applies to 12oz multi-pack bags of the cheese products, was announced after the firm received a complaint from a consumer about the product.

Around 2,700 cases of the product – shipped across the US - are affected by the recall.

“Kraft Foods Group Inc. is voluntarily recalling the Jalapeno variety of Kraft Strong Cheese with the Best When Used By date of 23 Nov 2012 as a precaution due to the possibility that a thin layer of plastic film from the package may remain adhered to the product,” said the Kraft recall notice, which was posted on the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website.

“If the film sticks to the cheese and is not removed, it could potentially cause a choking hazard," said the notice.

No other dates codes of Jalapeno String Cheese or any other Kraft Foods products are being recalled, the firm also confirmed.
