Listeria test lands AOAC OK
The test, which uses the firm’s Hunter Accelerated Real-Time PCR technology, has received the go-ahead from the AOAC, an international certification agency. Also on the market: new software geared toward streamlining the testing process.

The Hunter test system is designed to provide fast, reliable testing without breaking the bank. It can be used to test foods and environmental surfaces for L.mono.
The compact test product is available around the globe. Software delivers notification of results; test reports can be emailed to relevant parties to speed the process.

Growing threat
Food firms around the world are finding L.mono and other pathogens in the family to be an increasing threat. The bacteria has caused recalls of dairy products, produce, meat and poultry in recent years.
In extreme cases, the results of Listeria contamination and outbreak can be devastating. In 2011, a multistate outbreak, linked to whole cantaloupes, resulted in 30 deaths.
In addition to the L.mono test, InstantLabs also offers tests for salmonella, E.coli and other contaminants. The firm is in preproduction for kits to detect horse DNA (created in the wake of recent horsemeat scandals).
