The CDC said 634 people fell ill with seven outbreak strains of the pathogen from 29 states and Puerto Rico from March 1, 2013 and July 11, 2014.
Before the outbreak, four of the strains were rarely reported to PulseNet, the subtyping network of public health and food regulatory agency laboratories coordinated by CDC.
Foster Farms recalled an undetermined amount of chicken in July after illness was proven to be from a specific production lot.
Most ill persons (77%) were reported from California and 38% were hospitalized, and no deaths were reported.
The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS) determined that measures by the firm to prevent Salmonella contamination of raw chicken have been successful.
The firm revealed efforts to tackle the pathogen including a $75m investment earlier this year.
“The current outbreak appears to be over as the number of reported infections has returned to the expected number for this time of year,” said the CDC.
