Invisible Sentinel has partnered with Refresco Gerber to detect spoilage organisms found in fruit juice and concentrates.

Veriflow ACB detects alicyclobacillus (ACB), a quality-inhibiting bacteria found in 16% of all juice products, that produces sensory-altering compounds that cause spoilage.

Invisible Sentinel firm said current methods are laborious and require over seven days to yield definitive results.

Veriflow ACB provides quantitative results in less than three hours from sample collection.

Veriflow is a patented, molecular flow-based technology that uses molecular diagnostics, antibody design, and immunoassays.

Strategic foothold in industry

Nicholas Siciliano, Invisible Sentinel CEO, said the partnership on the commercialization of the product was a major endorsement.

“Not only do we have a partner with an exceptional track record in the marketplace, but this collaboration provides us with a strategic foothold in fruit juice quality testing where there is a true need for our paradigm-shifting technology.”

Refresco Gerber is one of Europe’s largest juice manufacturers with annual volumes exceeding 6 billion liters and the firm also packages juice and juice drinks, soft drinks and liquid foods.

It works with brands including Del Monte, Innocent, Ocean Spray, Um Bongo and Sunny D.

The firm has production in the Benelux, France, Germany, Iberia, Italy, UK, Poland and Finland.

In-house validation

Veriflow ACB is being validated by the juice maker and will be available globally later this year.

Refresco Gerber is testing in-house at its UK facility, with plans to roll-out to further locations and the partnership could be expanded to other spoilage organisms.

Andrew Prewer, raw materials technical manager at Refresco Gerber UK, said it is always looking to provide clients with high quality standards.

“We partnered with Invisible Sentinel on Veriflow ACB to improve quality control and maintain product integrity, assuring that packaged products leaving our facilities are of the highest possible taste and freshness.”

Invisible Sentinel has previously worked with Jackson Family Wines, Silliker, and Victory Brewing Company on development and commercialization of applications of the Veriflow technology.
