Fruzio Mixed Berries implicated in five cases of Hepatitis A are back on sale after product testing failed to find the virus.

The Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) found no evidence of Hepatitis A in any fruit recalled in December by Fruzio, held in store or by its suppliers in China.

Five patients contracted Hepatitis A and identified Fruzio two berry mix as one of the brands they had consumed.

MPI said people should wash their hands before eating and preparing food. They should also briefly boil any frozen berries before eating them, or ensure cooking exceeds 85 degrees Celsius for one minute.

Fruzio said MPI has tested the two berry mix and strawberry and blackberry at 30 times the level of normal testing and no evidence of Hepatitis A has been found.

The Chinese equivalent has tested fruit held in store by suppliers and also found no evidence of it, the firm added.

Suppliers have been authorised to recommence export of the same fruit as they supply Fruzio to their major markets, Japan, US and Europe.

“We know that the precautionary recall has caused uncertainty, anxiety and concern amongst our customers. We sincerely apologise for this. We know that we have to rebuild your trust in the brand and we are committed to providing you with safe quality frozen fruit at an affordable price,” said Fruzio.
