Märkische Faser files EFSA safety request for NGR technology
EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) has received a request from the German Competant Authority for a safety evaluation of Märkische Faser’s recycling process using NGR (Next Generation Recycling) technology.

The request was submitted by the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging, Freising, on behalf of Märkische Faser, in Germany.

It has asked to evaluate its recycling process to produce recycled plastic for food contact uses.

The application is filed in the Community register of authorised recycling processes in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 282/2008.

The application which is ‘under consideration’ includes a mandate and technical dossier and has been registered under the reference EFSA-Q-2016-00139.

Märkische Faser is a European manufacturer of polyester fibres.

Its Grisuten polyester fiber is manufactured in a continuous chemical process based on PTA (Purified terephthalic acid) and MEG (Mono Ethylene Glycol).
