Unilever’s cornflakes have been in the spotlight in Israel after testing by the company revealed a bacterial contamination.

The company halted supply of Telma brand cornflakes after routine testing found a bacterial contaminant.

Unilever has insisted the issue was spotted before any contaminated product went on shelf in stores.

As part of our stringent quality control, a routine microbiological test discovered a contaminant in a batch of our cereal’s packaging,” said the company in a statement.

We took immediate action and stopped supply of our products. No contaminated products ever left our warehouse or could have been purchased by consumers.”

Unilever says it has now “fully addressed” the problem and that its factory is now running at full capacity to get the cereal back on shelf.
