Deaths reported in Lagos cholera outbreak
Six people have died from a cholera outbreak in a Nigerian city, according to local media.
The Lagos State Government said 45 cases of cholera disease were recorded in Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of the state.
Dr Jide Idris, state commissioner for health, said the source has been traced to a salad called Abacha.
He said samples of Abacha salad and well water were sent to the Lagos State Drug Quality Control Laboratory for analysis with vibro cholerae, Salmonella species and E. coli found in Abacha and one of the two well water samples.
Dr Idris added continuous culture yielded Vibro cholerae from seven of 15 samples and was confirmed to be the Ogawa strain.
No new case had been reported since the outbreak last week suggesting it was over, he said.
