Tentamus Group buys TÜV Rheinland food analysis labs
TÜV Rheinland has sold its food analytics testing business to the Tentamus Group for an undisclosed amount.

The Tentamus Group said the deal opens up geographical coverage of one of the most important Asian markets.

Ralf Scheller, board member of TÜV Rheinland AG, said the decision to step out of the food business was not easy.

“However, with Tentamus and its structure and network of consisting of highly flexible and specialized labs, we found the perfect home for our well-established food labs in China and Taiwan.”

The Chinese laboratories in Fuzhou and Hainan and in Kaohsiung, Taiwan will strengthen the existing network of the Tentamus Group in Greater China.

Previous TÜV Rheinland labs will be known as Tentamus Analytics Hainan Co., Tentamus Mandy Analytics Fuzhou Co. and Tentamus Analytics Taiwan Co.

TÜV Rheinland’s subsidiary Luxcontrol was acquired by Tentamus in July.

Dr Jochen Zoller, founder and CEO of the Tentamus Group, said: “Due to the steady growth of the food industry and the increasingly global approach of our clients, we are well-positioned with the transaction to fulfil our customer’s testing and inspection needs and of course to strengthen their global chain of custody with our support.“

Earlier this year, the firm acquired Minerva Scientific, which specialises in honey and pharmaceutical testing.

Meanwhile, two labs of the Tentamus Group, aromaLAB and Quality Services International (QSI), have distinguished synthetically produced vanillin from that extracted from genuine vanilla beans.

AromaLAB developed the extraction method and QSI performed the analyses by isotopic ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS).

The method measures isotope fractionation, which differs between synthesized vanillin and genuine vanilla bean extract.
