Korean Noodles found to contain benzopyrene
The Philippine Government has issued a product recall after six Korean Noodle products were found to contain the chemical benzopyrene.

The government, through its Health Department, said it was taking the regulatory steps to ensure that these products will be taken off the market shelves immediately.

Inspections, collection and testing of other brands of noodles are also being analysed as a precaution.

The products include, Nongshim Neoguri (Hot), Nongshim Big Bowl Noodle Shrimp and Nongshim Saengsaeng Udon.

“These same brand noodle products will not be permitted in the market in the future until and unless tested and cleared by competent authorities,” said an advisory statement.

“We urge the public to avoid buying these products and report to us if these brands are still in the market.”

The US EPA describes benzopyrene as “one of a group of compounds called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons” which are formed as a “result of incomplete combustion of organic materials”.
