Review of audit arrangements in FSA approved meat plants
Thoughts on reviewing audit arrangements in approved meat plants have been called for by the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA).

The consultation wants stakeholders' views on the key elements of the draft audit proposal and evidence towards its initial impact assessment on UK stakeholders.

Changes are being considered for official control audits in slaughterhouses, cutting plants (co-located and stand-alone) and game handling sites subject to veterinary controls across the UK.

The proposals include changes to audit risk ratings, use of evidence, audit outcomes and frequencies.

The system has been in place since its introduction in 2006 and despite refinements a fundamental review was necessary, said the agency.
