A Campden BRI seminar in November is to examine Shiga toxin-producing E.coli.

STEC and the enterics on November 6 will look at specific aspects of STEC microbiology, as well as issues with other enteric organisms.

Speakers include Stefano Morabito, from the EU Reference Laboratory, Rome, Italy, Jane Horne, Foodborne Disease Strategy, Food Safety Monitoring and Policy Branch, FSA and Lawrence Staniforth, from Campden BRI.

It will address the significance and epidemiology of STEC in the UK food chain, methods for detection and tracking contamination, strategies for controlling STEC and enterics in the food arena and issues with Salmonella.

Last year saw the introduction of EU legislation to improve control of STEC on sprouted seeds, and research on fresh produce decontamination and control of cross contamination by E. coli O157, said Campden BRI.

The seminar will happen during Lab Innovations EXPO at the NEC, Birmingham, with the Food Fraud seminar taking place the day before.
