Salmonella contamination leads to two recalls

Jouni Meats has recalled ground beef products and Stallings Head Cheese Co., are withdrawing hog head cheese due to salmonella contamination.

Jouni Meats, based in Michigan, announced 500 pounds of ground beef products possibly contaminated with a strain of Salmonella Typhimurium produced between 4 and 9 December.

Seven people have been sickened after eating the beef from a restaurant, according to the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

Stallings Head Cheese Co., is recalling 4,700 pounds of hog head cheese may be contaminated with Salmonella Uganda produced between 1 November and 19 December.

Six case-patients have been identified from Louisiana, said the FSIS.
