The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the Food Safety Commission of Japan (FSCJ) have renewed their memorandum of cooperation.

The two food safety bodies agreed to build upon the agreement signed in 2009 to promote scientific cooperation on data collection and sharing related to risk monitoring and assessment.

They will continue to work together on collection, analysis and sharing of technical information, materials and expertise.

It will also strengthen the capacity building of professionals in each organization by participation in specific trainings and scientific events, as well as hosting short term visits for executives and experts of each organization as guest scientists.

Hiroshi Satoh, chairperson of FSCJ, and Bernhard Url, executive director of EFSA, signed the agreement last month during EFSA’s scientific conference at EXPO.

The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety (ANSES) and FSCJ signed a similar scientific cooperation on collection and sharing of data related to risk assessment in October.

FSCJ and the Economic and Food Safety Authority of the Portuguese Republic (ASAE) also partnered in September.
