NSF International and Fuchs Lubricants Co will present food safety seminars at Pack Expo.

The seminars are three times a day during the conference from 28-30 September at 10am, 11am and 2pm in booth S-7440 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Sarah Krol, global managing director, food safety for NSF International and Mohit Bhatia, product manager, food grade lubricants for Fuchs Lubricants Co will present on Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) benchmarked schemes, the impacts of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and ISO 21469 and food grade lubricants.

Manufacturers of lubricants for food and beverage processing can get third-party registration of products through NSF International.

Lubricant manufacturers and chemical suppliers can have NSF certification to ISO 21469 to assure plant managers the product complies with 21 CFR, Parts 178, 182 and 184 and there are minimal risks with product use.

The ISO 21469 certification process reviews quality control applied to the formulation, and manufacturing, distribution and storage methods of the lubricant to ensure compliance with standards of hygiene.

Krol said with the first two final rules under FSMA being finalised, having NSF non-food compound registration or certification to ISO 21469 is a pathway to compliance.

“Certification demonstrates that the product formulation has been independently evaluated to the standard ISO21469’s requirements to ensure the lubricant ingredients are safe in the event of incidental food contact.

“This independent evaluation in turn helps customers work towards complying with FSMA.”
