The controls for primary production of food of plant origin in Norway are in compliance with legislation but improvements could be made.
That was the conclusion of a report published by the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Surveillance Authority following an inspection carried out in September 2013.
The report shows that the relevant Norwegian control programs are in general satisfactory with European Economic Area (EEA).
However, the system for risk categorization of establishments is not always reflecting the actual risk of the end product and procedures to verify the effectiveness of official controls are not always clearly established, found EFTA .
The Norwegian Food Safety Authority (NFSA) has provided an action plan that addresses the authority's recommendations which is currently being reviewed.
