Fruits and vegetables are coated with wax at packing and grading houses to protect them during storage and shipment.
However, if excess wax is not removed from processing equipment on a regular basis, it can build up and interfere with operations. This may prevent wax from being applied to produce properly, and can impact product quality and shelf life.
Surfactants and solvents are needed to clean areas where wax is applied.
